Let’s just start with an awesome progress update!
Debt load as of January 19, 2016:
- Credit One CC – $0 (because I paid this bitch off on the 16th – BAM!)
- AMEX CC – $598
- Chase CC – $17,059 (before interest compounded on the 21st)
- Discover CC – $14,507
- Car – $15,167
- Which adds up to a stunning $47,331.
As of February 29, 2016:
- Credit One CC – $0 (because I paid this bitch off on Jan 16th – BAM!)
- AMEX CC – $0 (because I paid this jerk off on Feb 26th – BAM!)
- Chase CC – $16,995 (after interest compounded on the 21st)
- Discover CC – $14,020 (interest will compound on this on March 14th)
- Car – $14,916
Which adds up to a stunning $45,931 – we’ve paid off $1400 since January! Woot!
Now let’s get real about some spending, and it’s going to hurt. This has not been a good spending month, due to some planned purchases that I’ve put off, and some impulse spending… Eeks.
I had to get new tires ($280 for two new tires), and some new summer work clothes. The fact that the dress code at my not-so-new new job is completely different from my old job, combined with the fact that I’ve gained an unfortunate amount of weight since last summer added up to a desperate need for some warmer weather clothes. And since we live in the South, that expenditure had to happen now.
I also bought a plane ticket to visit my bestie ($120) and… concert tickets ($140). I know. I know! I have no shame about the first part; visiting friends is one of my goals for the year, and the cheap airfare made it worthwhile. But the concert tickets were a straight-up impulse buy.
I also ate out a lot, and got alcoholic bevs while out, which I normally don’t do, just because they’re absurdly expensive.
Alrighty, with that out of the way, we can talk about some of the good stuff.
1. Pay off Credit One card – achieved 1/16/16
ACHIEVED – Woohoo!
2. Pay off Discover card
PROGRESS – The AMEX is paid off (WOOHOO!), meaning that we now have an extra $100/month to throw at the Discover card. This is especially helpful since my student loan payments kick in next month.
3. One kid date with each kiddo
per week per month
PROGRESS – I took Alexander to the movies, and took both kids out to dinner one night. Maya and I will need to go on an excursion soon.
4. Clean one thing every day
PROGRESS – I did a significant amount of decluttering in our second bedroom (office/storage area). The spring cleaning bug has hit! I just wish it hit my husband as hard as it hit me, but he takes the kids to the park and I get some quiet time, so it’s really a win-win.
5. Eat a green thing every day
PROGRESS – I’ve been having a much easier time with this. My solution – eat veggies with breakfast every day! Ever since we found out I have an egg allergy, I’ve been struggling to find a new staple breakfast. Now, I eat a meat of some sort (my favorite is a new brand of kielbasa from Costco) and a bunch of frozen veggies (Normandy Blend, also from Costco). Tasty, satisfying, low carb, and healthy!
6. Get 20 minutes of movement in every day
FAIL – Well, this was a February fail. We were sick most of the month, so this definitely didn’t happen. But I’m optimistic for March, since I’m cheating and writing this post the first week of March, and I’ve gotten tons of activity already.
7. Take 4 friend trips
¼ done! I spent the past weekend visiting my bestie in DC. I saw The White House for the first time ever!!!
8. Get a tattoo
9. Have 10 friend dates this year
PASS – I’m going to start putting my buds’ names in here so I don’t double count any friend dates. Also, all of the below aren’t necessarily friend dates – some of them are more general social time, which I’m trying to increase, but I had a solid 5 (FIVE!) friend dates this month. I’m going to have to up my goal for the year, as I’m sitting at 7/10 total!
Feb: PR party, lunch with Paige, Brunch with Jilly and Lou, lunch with Megs, Deadpool with Lauren, girls’ night, dinner with Lauren
Jan: Lunch with Graham, comedy show with hubby and buds
10. Earn 100% of my Q1 bonus
PROGRESS –I’ll keep my metrics anonymized, but here’s how much I’ve achieved:
Part 1 of Personal:
- Part 1a –133% of Q1 goal
- Part 1b –60% of Q1 goal
- Part 1c –72% of Q1 goal
1b and 1c continue to grow sluggishly. We surpassed our 1a Q1 goal 6 weeks early, which is awesome. I don’t think we’ll hit the 1b and 1c goals, but NewDude and I may be able to at least get the numbers up a little bit further.
Part 2 of Personal:
- ~50% complete. Race to the finish is on here. I’m feeling the crunch for sure.
My job with FreeBoss has ended. I have no idea how long it will take for that job to pay out, but it couldn’t come at a better time. I did our taxes and we didn’t owe (woo!) which means we can resume house-hunting.
I also completed a small article writing job, and have an interview lined up for my next side hustle gig.
An exhausting, exhilarating month! How was your February? How are you progressing towards your goals?
