You may remember that the rent is too damn high, that I spend 2-3 hours a day commuting, and that I’m looking for a house.
Well, I found one. The title’s kind of a spoiler here, but long story short is that I made an offer on a condo.
Because I’m super optimistic, I have to already preface this with the silver lining: it wasn’t a perfect condo. It wasn’t like this particular condo dropped down from the heavens just for me. But it met 90% of our criteria – good commute, great schools, enough space to breathe – that I made the offer.
Only to find out that this particular complex is currently being sued by the FHA for violating some pretty basic FHA rules.
That’s so random that no one saw it coming.
Initially, I was pretty bummed (duh). But now, on to greener pastures. Our realtor recommended not looking at other condos, but focusing on townhomes and single-family homes. Tomorrow evening I’m headed out with her to look at 2 potential houses. The benefit is that they’re both huge, and both have gigantic yards. They’re in a decent school district (not incredible, but my children are unlikely to be stabbed) and the commute is alright (not incredible, but I’m unlikely to stab those around me).
So, again – the hunt continues.
